Join Kelly Richards for a 4 class series of beginner’s oil painting classes. Oil paints are hugely popular not only for their textures and techniques but also for their brilliant hues and color options. Students will learn how to use tools, mix paint with other mediums, and explore different painting techniques. Build a Vessel by Janet Griffin at Arts on Main

Fashion a bowl from top-quality wool and silk fibers. Formation of dish will be approximately 8’’ wide. We will choose our colors of Corriedale and Romney fibers to construct a hollow container. This class is open to adults and teens! Cost of class is $55. Registration deadline is Thursday, February 9 by 5pm.

Story Shields Workshop by Featured Artist, LaKaye Mbah at Arts on Main

Arts on Main is excited to host a workshop by one of our February Black History Month featured artists, LaKaye Mbah. During this workshop, we will build a visual language based on our shared experiences, as well as what makes us unique as individuals. Pine Needle Pendant or Pin with Becky Butler at Arts on Main

This class will introduce students to pine needle coiling on a prepared stone center or nut slice. There will be a variety of color and style options and students can create either a pin or a pendant. Students who have coiled before can advance their skills learning different stitches or beading techniques. VIMS After Hours: Applying Marine Science to Regulatory Realities

Did you know that in addition to conducting cutting-edge research and educating the next generations of marine scientists, VIMS advises the Commonwealth on matters related to marine science? Join Emily Hein, Assistant Director for Advisory Services, as she discusses how VIMS science-based recommendations are used by regulators to inform decisions on projects ranging from backyard erosion on tidal creeks, to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Project, to oil spill response. We are excited to offer this lecture in-person in McHugh Auditorium on VIMS' Gloucester Point Campus! This lecture will also be available as a live-streamed webinar. Registration is required for both in-person and webinar attendees. Webinar links will be sent in all registration confirmation emails. After Hours lectures are designed for an adult audience.

1 Day Heirloom Collage & Mixed Media Exploration with Theresa Wells Stifel at Arts on Main

Create your own mixed media masterpieces using those little pieces of memories too precious to throw away! Your quirky snippets, papers, jewelry, fabric, or any small odds and ends can be layered to create a charming and personal piece of art. If you want to practice without worrying about ruining a special object, extra supply packets will be available to purchase for $5 a bag so you can play with a free spirit. You will learn how to layer paint, paper, photos, trims, fabric and more. We will learn different types of gluing, fusing and stitching methods to build interesting layers for your pieces.
