Veterans Memorial Wall

Verteran's Memorial at Courthouse

On Sunday, May 25, 2008, the Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Wall was dedicated. Thanks to the dedication and contributions of the citizens and businesses, this memorial honoring veterans and merchant marines who were killed in action or died serving their country was erected in front of the courthouse building. In addition to erecting the memorial, a goal of the Veterans Memorial Committee is to establish a database of all veterans who lived in Gloucester County who served their country. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone with information of relatives or friends who have served our country is asked to email the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Committee or call 804-693-3515 to receive the database information form that needs to be completed.

Speed Reduction (Traffic Calming) Measures for Neighborhood Streets

In order for your street to be considered eligible for installation of speed reduction devices (also known as traffic calming devices) such as speed bumps, speed display signs, pavement markings, etc., your street must meet all of the following basic criteria:

  1. The street is in the state system of highways owned and maintained by VDOT. Private roads are not eligible.

  2. The street is within a neighborhood setting where the residences and businesses face the street.

  3. The street has a posted speed limit of 25 mph or less. For unposted, residential streets, speed limits must be confirmed with VDOT.

If you believe your street meets the basic eligibility requirements, please contact the Board of Supervisors to make your request. Click here to find the contact information for your magisterial district's Board member.

Please note that this process requires additional information and may impose a cost as it is developed and executed in coordination with the local community, homeowner associations/civic associations, the Board of Supervisors, and VDOT. For detailed information, click here to view VDOT's comprehensive Traffic Calming Guide for Neighborhood Streets.
