Welcome to the Point
Walk
While visiting Gloucester Point Beach Park be sure to take a stroll
along THE POINT WALK!!
What is
THE POINT WALK?
Glad you asked...it is an interpretive walk along the York
River where you will learn all about Gloucester. History -
Gloucester Point's participation in the Civil and Revolutionary Wars; the
wonderful steamboats of the York River; the ferries that carried travelers
from Yorktown to Gloucester Point before the Coleman Bridge was built; the
construction of the Coleman Bridges. About our natural resources - wetlands,
shorebirds, fishing.

Informational signs tell about the Virginia Institute
of Marine Science, a partner in this project; about the importance of the
wetlands and sea grasses; about the Chesapeake Bay and how hurricanes and
Nor' Easters are constantly rearranging the beaches. Have you ever noticed
the Military vessels on the York? A photo board helps you identify the
most commonly seen ships. Our beautiful Gazebo is equipped with
binoculars, so you
can take a closer look at Yorktown Beach, the Amoco Refinery, Sarah Creek,
Naval Weapon Station and the shorelines. And no beach visit is complete
without a look at birds!
Gloucester Point Beach
has never been so clean!
We have purchased a tractor to remove beach
grass and debris from the beach.
