Vendor Application for A Day For Jarrett

WHAT IS A DAY FOR JARRETT?

It's a fundraiser for our community organized by a group of citizens that are trying to make a difference for our disabled population.  On September 27, 2008 of this year their second fundraiser will be held.

Last year they sponsored an event called “A Day for Jarrett” in honor of Jarrett Frush.  Jarrett is a seven-year-old boy who has severe cerebral palsy.  He is unable to do the basics of life such as: eating, walking and even talking.  Because of this, he is the driving force of the group!

Last year the event featured a police escorted motorcycle ride with Nick and Christian from Orange County Choppers!  Waiting in the fields were several vendors, a carnival and clowns for all of the families to enjoy.  The event was held at Damon & Company in Gloucester, Va. and will be again this year.  The money we raised was for Cerebral Palsy of Virginia located in Virginia Beach, VA.

This year the funds will go to a public all inclusive playground at Beaverdam Park on Fary's Mill Road.  This playground will be accessible by wheelchair ramps and access points for children who can partially walk.  Swings that are traditional for a playground and swings that are adapted for those with special needs will be built.  Children with Autism will have a “quiet” area to unwind from the excitement of their surroundings and Downs’s children will have activities to help them with their coordination.  Activity stations located throughout the playground will offer physically challenged children the chance to play on their own.  Paved or brick walkways will be landscaped into the surroundings so that children like Jarrett can enjoy the outdoors that we all take for granted.  These types of playgrounds are few and far between but are becoming a much-needed asset to all communities so that all children with different abilities can learn, play and enjoy the interaction with others.

Mark your calendar to join us for this special day.
You can help us to offer a playground where
disabled children can be kids and just play!
