Main Library to Remain Closed Until May 22

The Gloucester Main Library has announced that it will need to remain closed until Wednesday, May 22, as construction crews will need extra time to complete the current portion of the renovations inside that building.

As renovations to the Gloucester Main Library are expected to be completed by May 31, the building was initially scheduled to be closed to the public May 14-15 and May 20-21; however, staff was notified late Tuesday by the contractor that extra time will be required. Curbside service will remain available during the dates the building will be closed.

The current phase of construction includes removing the current circulation desk and constructing the new circulation desk in a different area of the library.

The Point Branch of the library will remain open, and the library is always available online by visiting gloucesterva.gov/library.

Gloucester County Rabies Clinic Scheduled for Saturday

Gloucester County Animal Control is hosting a Rabies Vaccine Clinic for dogs only on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. in the Gloucester High School parking lot.

Visitors will be able to drive up to the tent and have their dogs vaccinated for $10. “This makes the vaccine much more affordable for our folks, and having vaccinated pets keeps our community safe,” said Steve Baranek, Gloucester’s Chief Animal Control Officer. “We’re happy to be able to offer this service to our residents.”

All dogs must be placed on a leash, and it is requested that aggressive dogs be muzzled to keep other animals and people safe. Also, all rabies vaccines will default to a one-year expiration (three-year rabies vaccines will be available with the proof of a prior rabies vaccine).

Other sponsors of the clinic include Gloucester Veterinary Hospital and the Gloucester Rotary Club. Support is being provided by the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office, Gloucester C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team), the Gloucester Treasurer’s Office, the Virginia Department of Health and Gloucester High School.
